Hidalgo County's excellent climate
and central location offers year round outdoor recreation. Most popular are rockhounding
and hunting.
Small game including quail and dove are plentiful in the area. For big game, hunters
from all over the world find their way to Hidalgo County in search of coues deer, javelina
and mule deer. Professional guide service is available.
Motel Drive in downtown Lordsburg was once part of the famous Butterfield Trail. It is
said by some that you can still hear the hoof beats of the horses and the shouting
commands of the stage driver if you listen carefully.
